Foxwoods to launch 25th anniversary celebration with public event

Mashantucket — Foxwoods Resort Casino is hosting a public ceremony Wednesday to mark the start of a yearlong celebration of its 25th anniversary.

The casino, the largest destination resort in North America, opened Feb. 15, 1992.

The event will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday on Foxwoods’ retail concourse and will feature performances by Rich Money Beatz and the Little Fox Dance Troupe; speeches by Rodney Butler, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council chairman, and Felix Rappaport, Foxwoods’ president and chief executive officer; and the cutting of a giant 16-foot-by-13-foot cake.

More than $250,000 in prizes and giveaways will be raffled, including a Foxwoods getaway, Rolex watches and tickets to sports events.

The celebration will continue with free concert performances in the evening. Pop star Kesha will take the Grand Theater stage at 7 p.m., and Motown legend Smokey Robinson will return to the Fox Theater at 7:30. Guests can start lining up at noon Wednesday at the theater box offices to receive tickets to the show of their choice.
