WNBA honors Sun's Jasmine and Alyssa Thomas

Jasmine and Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun were named to the WNBA All-Defensive team Tuesday, as voted by league coaches.

The 12 coaches selected first and second team by position and were not permitted to vote for players on their own teams. Players received five points for every first team and vote and three for a second team vote.

Jasmine Thomas, Connecticut's starting point guard, was selected to the first team and tied Los Angeles Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike and center Sylvia Fowles of the Minnesota Lynx for the second-most points (49). Alyssa Thomas, a forward, had 21 points and made the second team.

Jasmine Thomas finished fourth in the league in steals per game (1.59) and Alyssa Thomas fifth (1.57).

It's the first All-Defensive first team honor of Jasmine Thomas' seven-year career after being a second team pick last season. She was also selected to start in the WNBA All-Star Game for the first time.

Alyssa Thomas, who was also a first time All-Star this season, averaged a career-high 5.4 defensive rebounds and was 12th in the league in overall rebounds (6.8).
