The second Peter Ash novel moves comfortably into Jack Reacher territory

    Burning Bright, Nick Petrie

Books-wise, it's always iffy and weird to splash into the middle of an existing series. But, after receiving an advanced reader's copy of Nick Petrie's "Burning Bright" and getting hooked in the first 10 pages, I then realized this was his second novel starring emotionally damaged Afghan/Iraq war vet Peter Ash. Too late. I was already rolling, and I'll have to go back later to catch up on volume one. The compelling Ash, out of the Jack Reacher school of hero but with his own skills, charm and issues, accidentally comes across investigative journalist June Cassidy. She's being hunted by government forces who believe she knows secrets belonging to her deceased mother — a computer genius who'd been working on a project that could massively change technology and weaponry. Game on!
