Art Exhibits/Openings

Six Summit Gallery, 6 Summit St, Ivoryton , CT , 06442

Our yearly salon show with smaller gift giving works continues with 10 stunning original works by Anne Bachelier.

Anne Bachelier was born in Louvigne du Desert, France. She studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, La Seyne-Sur-Mer between 1966 and 1970. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout North America, Europe and Japan. Her work is often compared to Goya, Moreau, Magritte, and Fini, and is collected by the Musee de la Poste in Paris. The artist is a member of the Libellule Groupe founded by Lukas Kandi. As a master of line and detail, her metaphysical, dream-like fantasies evoke a gamut of feelings similar to a theatrical performance. Bachelier draws the viewer into beautifully rendered narratives that are both powerful and soothing. Illustrations and books currently available at Six Summit Gallery located across the street from the Ivoryton Playhouse.

Allegra di Bonaventura

Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, 2:00 pm

Author Events

East Lyme Police Station, 278 Main Street, Niantic, CT , 06357

Historian Allegra di Bonaventura will discuss her book, For Adam’s Sake: A Family Saga in Colonial New England; The public is invited to attend this first lecture in the East Lyme Historical Society’s 2014 Lecture Series. Admission is free, although donations are appreciated.
Based on di Bonaventura’s into the diary of Joshua Hempstead, farmer and tradesman in New London, this book reveals much about family life in colonial New England. Hempstead’s household included a slave, Adam Jackson, owned by Hempstead for over 30 years. Di Bonaventura describes the complexity of this master/slave relationship, and traces the intertwining stories of the Hempstead and Jackson families until the eve of the Revolutionary War. The common struggle to survive often blurred the lines between slavery and freedom, as di Bonaventura elegantly depicts.
