Art Exhibits/Openings

Six Summit Gallery, 6 Summit St, Ivoryton , CT , 06442

Our yearly salon show with smaller gift giving works continues with 10 stunning original works by Anne Bachelier.

Anne Bachelier was born in Louvigne du Desert, France. She studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, La Seyne-Sur-Mer between 1966 and 1970. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout North America, Europe and Japan. Her work is often compared to Goya, Moreau, Magritte, and Fini, and is collected by the Musee de la Poste in Paris. The artist is a member of the Libellule Groupe founded by Lukas Kandi. As a master of line and detail, her metaphysical, dream-like fantasies evoke a gamut of feelings similar to a theatrical performance. Bachelier draws the viewer into beautifully rendered narratives that are both powerful and soothing. Illustrations and books currently available at Six Summit Gallery located across the street from the Ivoryton Playhouse.

Branford House, 1084 Shennecossett Rd, Groton, CT , 06340

The University of Connecticut will welcome the community to the Avery Point Campus on Sunday, March 2 to celebrate Read Across America Day. This annual observance, held on the birthday of the beloved children’s author Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss), is designed to help children discover the joys of reading.

Special guest at this year’s event will be Connecticut Author Eric Berlin. He will take on the role of game show host, and the kids are the contestants! Kids try their hand at solving dozens of quick, fun wordplay puzzles -- chosen with an emphasis on language skills and flexible thinking. With prizes for the winners!

Student Outreach Coordinator of the Avery Point Campus Lisa Hastings says, “UConn Avery Point is pleased once again to be a host site for ‘Read Across America.’ Our students have worked really hard to bring this exciting, free celebration to the community. By hosting this event on our campus, we can help the children participating in this event find their love for reading.”
In keeping with Avery Point’s mission of marine and maritime education, children will have a chance to color pictures with a maritime theme and to look at and touch some of
the sea creatures living in special ‘touch tanks’ that allow visitors to campus get a real glimpse at undersea life.

Read Across America is an initiative of the National Education Association. It was introduced in March 1998 and is the largest celebration of reading in the country. Its mission is to provide teachers, parents, caregivers, and children the resources and activities needed to keep reading 365 days a year.
