The Mystic & Noank Library is hosting an exhibit of works by Mysticalligraphers, a local calligraphy group, in the Ames Meeting Room. The group meets at the Library on the second Wednesday of every month from 7 to 8 p.m. The exhibit runs from March 31 through April 30 during regular Library hours when the Ames Room is not in use.
There will be an Open House on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Come meet the members of the group and learn about the art of calligraphy.

Stonington High School Drama proudly presents Oscar Wilde’s classic play, The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by Erin Stanley.

Jack Worthing (Dillon Toole) and Algernon Montcrieff (Nick Robinson) are two young friends living in 1890’s Victorian England. When they both decide to use the same pseudonym, (Earnest) on the sly, to put some excitement into their lives they get much more than they bargained for. Things start to unravel when they end up together on Jack’s country estate. To make matters worse the women they have fallen in love with are also in attendance thinking they are both “Ernest”!

Featured performers also include Marissa Carabello, Madeline Cole, Sally Hinckley.

Be sure not to miss out on this hilarious comedy of mistaken identity! Show dates and times are November 20th and 21st at 7:00pm and November 22nd at 2pm. Nicholas F. Bellantoni, PhD, will discuss “Historic East Lyme, Underground” on Sunday, April 6th,part of the East Lyme Historical Society's 2014 Lecture Series. The public is warmly invited to attend this lecture. Admission is free, although donations are always appreciated.
Dr. Bellantoni, who has been excavating in Connecticut for over 30 years, will provide an overview of historical and Native American archaeology in the East Lyme area, as well as the role of historic preservation in making land use decisions. Dr. Bellantoni serves as the state archaeologist with the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History and Archaeology Center in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Connecticut.

The Arts Commission of Christ Church Westerly invites the public to a concert of chamber music to be performed by the Ariosti Chamber Players. This ensemble is conducted by Dr. Joseph Ceo from the University of Rhode Island and will perform music for flute, clarinet, strings and harpsichord. Eden Casteel, who has been described as a“stunning coloratura soprano “, will be featured on several of the works to be performed by the ensemble. Also on the program is the world premiere of a wonderful new work by local composer Derek Ferris entitled ”Concerto in B-flat major for Chamber Orchestra”. Other works to be performed are the great standards of chamber music composed by J.S. Bach and Leonardo Vinci.

A brilliant newcomer to the international piano scene, Kuok-Wai Lio was born in Macau in 1989 and began his piano studies at the age of five. He studied at Curtis and Yale. Recent appearances include performances at the Ravinia Festival, the Salzburg Festival, Marlboro and the Santa Fe Chamber Music festivals. Kuok-Wai has been a prizewinner in international competitions including the Gina Bachauer, Steinway, and Chopin (Tokyo) competitions. His Chester concert will include Schubert’s Four Impromptus, the “Waldstein” Sonata in C Major by Beethoven, and Schumann’s Fantasy in C Major. All ticket-holders are invited to stay for a reception after the concert to meet the performer. This is the 40th anniversary season for the nonprofit Collomore Concert series.

This single session, 8-hour course, taught by Professional Marine Education, provides a
certificate of completion as partial fulfillment of the requirements to obtain the certification of Personal Watercraft Operation, which allows the operation of motorized recreational
vessels up to 65’ and sailboats 19 ˝’ in length and longer. Prior to taking this class each
student should create an account online at www.ct.gov/deep, then click “Purchase a Hunting/Fishing License” and click the START button. Create an account if you don’t already have one, and then print the page that includes your Conservation ID number and bring it to class. Once we have entered your score in the DEEP system you will use your account to purchase & print the certificate after the class. Students should bring a pen or pencil to class.

The Tick-Borne Disease Alliance Sixth Annual “Bite Back for a Cure” Charity Walk/Run;

On April 6, 2014, the Tick-Borne Disease Alliance will be holding their sixth annual "Bite Back for a Cure" Charity Walk/Run at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport Conn., rain or shine. (http://bit.ly/1oQiLiZ)

Individuals are welcome to participate in this event, which offers a three and six mile running course, as well as a one mile loop walk. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) will be in attendance to share his support and participation. The event and the TBDA aim to raise funds, increase awareness, promote advocacy and support initiatives to eradicate Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.
