The 2014 annual spring Art Shine Exhibition and Opening Reception will take place on Thursday, April 10, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm in the Ludington Gallery. The Library will host three exceptionally fine artists of regional and national recognition: photographer Susan Higgins, painter Jacqueline White Jones and painter/illustrator Rosemary Webber.
The exhibit will be on display through May, 31. The art exhibition and reception is free and open to the public. A portion of the sales goes to support the Library. The Library is located at 2 Library Lane, off Lyme Street in Old Lyme. Hours are Monday and Wednesday, 10 am to 7 pm; Tuesday and Thursday, 10 am to 6 pm; Friday, 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm.

An exhibition of artwork by seniors at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts opens at the College’s Chauncey Stillman and Sill House Galleries on Friday, April 11, with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. These seniors are studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and will graduate in May 2014. The Senior Studio experience at the College allows students to refine their vision and develop a skill set in order to create a body of work that exemplifies their individual interests, talents, and artistic sensibilities. The Senior Studio Exhibition 2014 reflects the culmination of this project. Students will be present at the opening reception and available to discuss their work. Both the reception and exhibition are free and open to the public; all are welcome. The exhibition runs through May 17.

The Shoreline Chorale will present “Rhythms of Dancing” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 27 at the Westbrook High School. Choral selections emphasize the rhythmic qualities of numerous dance styles, including German waltz, Hungarian, Latin (tango, Cachucha), African (Nigerian, Shona), and American (folk, Shaker) styles.

Ballroom dance champions Barbara Malinsky and husband Richard will perform a tango during the choral selection called “Tango to Evora”
and students of the Westbrook Dance Academy will exhibit their dance repertoire during the concert.

The Chorale’s lively Shoreliners Quintet will perform "Soft Shoe Song” (The Dance My Darlin' Used to Do), composed by Sid Bass with lyrics by Roy Jordan, arranged for this concert by chorale and quintet member Charles Houlihan.
