Charlestown's General Stanton Inn Outdoor Flea Market, which opened its 2014 season last weekend, will be welcoming visitors again this Sunday, May 3rd, from 8 a.m.-3p.m, in celebration of the beginning of its 49th consecutive year. Vendors have been readying their booths in anticipation of shoppers looking for one-of-a-kind gifts for their one-of-a-kind Moms (Mothers' Day being next Sunday, May 11), and for antique dealers hoping to find bargains to bring with them to the first of Brimfield's three antique events of the season.
The General Stanton Inn Flea Market, one of the oldest, largest and most popular in the area, will be open on Sundays only, until the beginning of the Memorial Day Weekend. Starting May 24, and running through Columbus Day. the Flea Market will be open Saturdays, Sundays and Holiday Mondays, also from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission into the Flea Market is free. A $2. parking fee is charged on Sundays only. Both breakfast and lunch food and beverages are available for purchase on site.
An inviting quantity and variety of antiques, collectibles, art, crafts, new merchandise (and soon, Farmers' Market items), make this Flea Market-near-the-sea a must-see for visitors from many area states and internationally. The General Stanton Inn is especially prized by collectors of nautical treasures, owners opening up cottages for the season, and students furnishing college dorms and apartments.
Set on seven tree-lined acres in the center of the village district, near Charlestown Beach, the General Stanton Inn Flea Market attracts vendors from throughout Rhode Island, and area states as well. 10 x 20 foot spaces can be reserved for $20.-$35., depending on the day and booth location chosen. Selling areas are available against the fence and stone wall, on the grass, and in pre-tarped rows. Vendors are asked to bring their own sales tables and tents/sunbrellas, if they are not renting a booth in the pre-tarped section of the market. Non-profit groups are invited to set up information and sales booths free of charge, throughout the six-month season of the Flea Market.
The General Stanton Flea Market is a favorite shopping spot for vendors who set up at the Brimfield Antique and Collectible Shows. The Central MA antique shows are the largest outdoor antique shows in New England. The first show of the three-event season, runs from May 13-18.
