The 2014 annual spring Art Shine Exhibition and Opening Reception will take place on Thursday, April 10, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm in the Ludington Gallery. The Library will host three exceptionally fine artists of regional and national recognition: photographer Susan Higgins, painter Jacqueline White Jones and painter/illustrator Rosemary Webber.
The exhibit will be on display through May, 31. The art exhibition and reception is free and open to the public. A portion of the sales goes to support the Library. The Library is located at 2 Library Lane, off Lyme Street in Old Lyme. Hours are Monday and Wednesday, 10 am to 7 pm; Tuesday and Thursday, 10 am to 6 pm; Friday, 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm.

Lyme Academy College's Senior Studio Exhibition Opens April 11;

An exhibition of artwork by seniors at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts opens at the Collegeís Chauncey Stillman and Sill House Galleries on Friday, April 11, with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. These seniors are studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and will graduate in May 2014. The Senior Studio experience at the College allows students to refine their vision and develop a skill set in order to create a body of work that exemplifies their individual interests, talents, and artistic sensibilities. The Senior Studio Exhibition 2014 reflects the culmination of this project. Students will be present at the opening reception and available to discuss their work. Both the reception and exhibition are free and open to the public; all are welcome. The exhibition runs through May 17.

Mother's Day Walk at Bluff Point

The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center and New London Maritime Society are co-hosting a Motherís Day Walk at Bluff Point State Park from 3-4:30 p.m., Sunday.
The walk is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Frank Loomis Palmer Fund.
We meet at 3 p.m., Sunday May 11 at Bluff Point State Park, 1 Depot Road, Groton. Tickets are $5 per person, $20 maximum per family.
Bluff Point State Park occupies an undeveloped peninsula on Long Island Sound between the Poquonnock River and Mumford Cove. Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Executive Director Maggie Jones will lead a walking tour of native spring wildflowers and wildlife, winding up with a Motherís Day tea (lemonade, grapes and cookies). Registration is required by calling the nature center at (860) 536-1216.
In addition, both the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, 109 Pequotsepos Road in Mystic, and the Custom House Maritime Museum, 150 Bank St. in New London, are offering free admission to all moms and grandmothers all day on Motherís Day. The Nature Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the Custom House is open noon to 3 p.m.

TriBeCaStan, one of contemporary musicís most musically diverse bands, will travel from New York City to perform in the historic Chester Meeting House on Sunday, May 11 at 5:00 p.m. in the final concert of the 40th anniversary season of the Robbie Collomore Music Series.

The New York Times describes TriBeCaStanís sound as ďgenre-bending jazz and world-music.Ē

With TriBeCaStan, the Indian sarod meets surf rock, West African kora merges with Appalachian mountain tunes, and traditional Afghan melodies mingle with East Coast loft jazz. The final package is the result of a virtuosic and exuberant collaboration between some of New Yorkís finest jazz and world musicians.

All ticket-holders are invited to stay for a reception after the concert to meet the performers.
