Jim Laurino is a representational landscape painter, and his style has been heavily influenced by American and French impressionist painters.

Connecticut’s first official state troubador, Tom Callinan, will perform a concert at 2 p.m. The concert is a fundraiser for a statue to honor the thousand young Connecticut men who served with the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, 1933 through 1942. Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth is the future site of the statue.
A $10 donation is suggested for adults and $5 for seniors and children.

An annual gathering of British motor vehicle enthusiasts, including sports cars, sedans, trucks and motorcycles of all makes. Held on a 5 acre field, overlooking Long Island Sound at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, more than 350 entrants are expected from throughout the Northeast. Vehicles will be displayed in 35 classes, with etched glass mugs being presented to the top cars in each class, as determined by vote of the participants. There is no charge to view the cars, however the park does charge a spectator parking fee. Automotive related vendors will be present, as will food concession trucks. Spectators are invited to stroll through the park and beach and enjoy a picnic lunch.

The Hempsted Houses are bringing tea back to the “Huguenot House” at the corner of Jay and Hempstead on June 1.

In the 1920s and ’30s, the stone building was a popular tea house run by a mother and daughter. The tea house, one of several in New London at the time, boasted a lending library and a menu that included chicken salad sandwiches, waffles, iced or hot tea, and ice cream.

Visitors on June 1 will enjoy tea and refreshments, see some unusual teapots with collector Irma Streeter of Groton, and slip back to the days of the Old Huguenot Book Shelf & Tea House. Streeter's collection includes more than 200 teapots; she will share some of her favorites.

The program runs from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Admission includes both historic houses at the site, one built in 1678 and the other in 1759.
