This exhibit is held Saturday, June 28-Saturday, October 18 and explores the dramatic changes that occurred to bison and its habitat, and to the people who depended on it for their daily existence. The Bison features Plains Indian objects, contemporary Native art, popular culture items, small models and sculptures, natural history materials, and vivid images. OUT OF THE BOX, an exhibition showcasing the work of fine artists who “break out” of the rectangular canvas, sculpt unique objects or shoot photographs of unexpected subjects opens at Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisans Store (August 22 - September 28) at 61 Main Street, Centerbrook, Connecticut. A Reception, open to the public to meet artists and enjoy wine and hors d’ouevres is Friday, August 22nd from 6:30-9pm. And on Saturday, September 13, Origami in the Gallery will be held from 11:30-1:30pm, $2 for materials and open to all, no experience required. Spectrum is the newest expansion of the non-profit arts organization Arts Center Killingworth, whose mission includes providing opportunities for emerging and established artists to display and sell their work.

Studio 33 Art and Frame Gallery is seeking original works inspired by a call to Pause for Beauty. This show is a remembrance to pause for the beauty around us; to stop and smell the roses, savor the moment and join with family and friends to celebrate Life and Beautiful Art.

Entries will reflect the artists’ unique view of what beauty is. Since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, this should prove to be an interesting show. Works will be selected through a jury process. The show will run from October 1-31 with an opening reception Friday October 3 from 5-7:30 pm.

We are pleased to announce Carol Dunn as our guest juror. Carol is an award-winning printmaker, photographer and mixed media artist.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation.

2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the Connecticut River Museum. In honor of this milestone, the Museum will feature the exhibit Reflections: 40 Years along the River. The exhibit will explore the story of the Museum and highlight the many topics that CRM has explored through exhibits, programs and other activities.

Members are invited to join us the evening of July 11 from 5:00-7:00 for an opening reception, held in conjunction with the Museum’s Annual Meeting. The exhibition will be open to the public daily until October 13.

Through Painting, mixed media, and video, the viewer is plunged into a visual requiem for the human experience. The Saybrook Point Inn is sponsoring its Sixth Annual Labor Day Car Show on Monday, September 1, from 12 noon to 4 pm, at the Inn, Two Bridge Street in Old Saybrook. Owners of classic, antique, rare or muscle cars are invited to bring their cars down to this beautiful setting near the Saybrook Point Inn Marina.
The day’s activities include live music by The Cartells and refreshments, including hot dogs and hamburgers, on the Fresh Salt patio. A 50/50 raffle will also be held. Numerous “People’s Choice” trophies will be awarded to the cars in various categories.
