    Memorial Day round-up

    SATURDAY, MAY 28

    Fleet Reserve Sea Service Memorial — 2 p.m., Town of Groton Veterans' Memorial, 52 Newtown Road; conducted by the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 20; shipmates who died in the last year will be honored with a bell toll, and members of the Branch and Auxiliary will place wreaths at the site; (860) 445-0731.

    SUNDAY, MAY 29

    Ledyard Parade — 1:15 p.m., beginning at Ledyard Center School, proceeding on Route 117, turning left onto Colonel Ledyard Highway, travelling onto Gallup Hill Road and ending at Ledyard High School parking lot.

    Candlelight Vigil in East Lyme — 7 p.m., Town Green, Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, Niantic; sponsored by the East Lyme Veterans Council.

    Candlelight Vigil in New London — 8 p.m., Parade Plaza, bottom of State Street, New London; honors veterans and those on active duty; a special tribute will be made in memory to LCPL Joseph B. Worth and Sgt. David Rogers; New London High School band and choir perform and the school's Navy Junior ROTC will attend.

    MONDAY, MAY 30

    Essex Parade — 9 a.m., Main Street, Essex; ceremonies 9:30 a.m. at town hall; (609) 805-7146.

    Salem Parade — 10 a.m., starts at Salem Town Green and travels along Route 85.

    Noank Parade — 10 a.m., Main Street, Noank; picnic follows in the Noank Village until 1 p.m.; (860) 823-8910.

    Witness For Peace Concert — 10 a.m., New London's Soldiers and Sailors Memorial, corner of State and Bank streets; Connecticut State Troubadour Lara Herscovitch, Hugh Birdsall, Coal Tattoo, more; (860) 574-6235.

    Remembrance Service — 10 a.m., East Neck Cemetery, 143 Niles Hill Road, Waterford; to honor those who have served the country as well as loved ones who have passed away; attendeeds asked to park on Seabreeze Drive; (860) 508-7761.

    Norwich Parade — noon, from St. Patrick's Cathedral, 213 Broadway, to Chelsea Parade; wreath laying at 11 a.m. at Little Plains Park on Broadway; sponsored by Norwich Area Veterans Council; after the parade, a Memorial Day program will be held at Chelsea Parade.

    Mystic Parade —  2 p.m., Route 1, downtown Mystic; sponsored by the Hugo Simonelli Veterans of Foreign Wars, whose post on Route 1 will be the site of a post-parade memorial service.

    Niantic Parade — 2 p.m., St. John's Green, Main Street, to East Lyme Town Hall, Pennsylvania Avenue.

    Voluntown Parade — 2 p.m., starts at Robbins Cemetery, Beachpond Road (Route 138), and continues on that road till the town green, where, after a brief ceremony, the parade ends.

    Taftville Ceremony and Parade — 10 a.m., Memorial Park, Corner of Norwich and South B Street, Taftville; parade at noon; all city residents are welcome to attend; (860) 908-2104.

    Franklin Parade Picnic — 10 a.m., Janet Carlson Calvert Library, 5 Tyler Drive, Franklin; celebrate the library's 10th anniversary with cake & ice cream; (860) 642-6207.
