Local musicians sing to fight hunger

Coal Tattoo, from left, Kate Straub and Brian Straub. (Submitted)

It has probably occurred to the gracious folks who organize the regular Hoot for Hunger concerts — which benefit the New London Community Meal Center — that these events could be taken literally if the entertainment featured the old Philly band The Hooters and they took place at the local Hooters. Oh, hold on. The Hooters broke up and we don't have a Hooters restaurant.

Well, methinks we're much better off with the way these HFH shows nornally roll — organic and homegrown and totally sincere. Friday's latest edition takes place at Old Orchard Farm in East Lyme. Performers include Hugh And Dana (6:30 p.m.), Sherwood (6:45 p.m.), Golden Ration (7 p.m.), The Carolans (7:15 p.m.), Coal Tattoo (7:30 p.m.), Butch Foster (7:45 p.m.), Anna May (8 p.m.), Clayton Allen (8:15 p.m.), and a grand finale (8:30 p.m.).

A fun twist this time out: It's a potluck supper and BYOB situation, so contribute and enjoy!

Hoot for Hunger, 6:30 p.m. Friday, Old Orchard Farm, 22 Scott Road, East Lyme; free, donations encouraged; (860) 739-4779.
