Shaboo Inn reunion aids Covenant Soup Kitchen

The late, great Shaboo Inn in Willimantic remains one of THE iconic Connecticut live music rooms in history. But the club's legacy isn't done yet.

On Saturday, the Shaboo's former owners, Bruce John and David Foster, in conjunction with the Windham 325th Anniversary Committee, are promoting a star-clustered reunion concert in an effort to pay off the $100,000 mortgage for the Covenant Soup Kitchen — a 35-year-old institution that serves 150,000 meals a year for those in need.

The all-ages event, kicking off at 2 p.m. in Willimantic's Jillson Square, boasts an amazing lineup with the Temptations featuring Dennis Edwards (2 p.m.), Jonathan Edwards (4:30 p.m.), NRBQ (6:30 p.m.) and, closing out the show in big fashion at 8 p.m., David Foster & the Shaboo All Stars with special guests Kal David, Miss Lauri Bono and, from the Beaver Brown Band, John Cafferty and Michael Antunes. More fun: the Willimantic Brewing Company is arranging for an array of food and beverage vendors to be on-site.

Shaboo Reunion benefitting the Covenant Soup Kitchen, 2 p.m. Saturday, Jillson Square, 645 Main St., Willimantic; $25 advance, $30 gate; shabooreunion.com.
