Despite the fascination with and continued supply of book, film, television and pan-media consumer product focused on World War II, Switzerland rarely takes a starring role. Given the country's well-crafted brand of neutrality and self-contained isolation, that's perhaps understandable.

Wait, then, until you see "The Devouring," the 13th Billy Boyle adventure in Essex author James Benn's amazing World War II mystery series. When Boyle and his sidekick Kaz are dispatched to Switzerland to investigate the murder of a Swiss banking official, they uncover evidence that the Swiss are involved with the Nazis in profiteering schemes — and it gets darker, fast.
