Comedian Ryan Hamilton appears at Comix Thursday through Saturday
As certain as a bright harvest moon slowly ascends the autumn dark, so climbs Ryan Hamilton up the steep peaks of the standup comedy hierarchy. The comic — an unlikely native of Idaho, which is not known as the fertile crescent of All Things Humorous — is touring behind his very funny first Netflix special titled "Happy Face" and performs Thursday through Saturday in Comix at Mohegan Sun.
Twisting the "goofball in the big city" stereotypes, Hamilton uses his earnest, self-effacing, aw-shucks demeanor to gaze with oft-wicked glee at life in Manhattan and the modern world. He's very distinctive and quite hilarious — and this is a nice chance to see him before he inevitably starts to fill halls instead of clubs.
Ryan Hamilton, 8 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. and 10:30 p.m. Sat., Comix at Mohegan Sun; $20-$45 Thurs. with $10 food/drink minimum, $25-$55 Fri.-Sat. with $10 food/drink minimum; comixmohegansun.com, 1-800-745-3000.
