Former Merrill writer-in-residence returns for Thursday book signing

Novelist Ivy Pochoda will return to the area Thursday to discuss and sign copies of her newest book, "Wonder Valley," at Bank Square Books in Mystic.

It's a story about a teen who runs away from her father's mysterious commune and connects with six different characters who in their respective ways reflect the many different personalities of Los Angeles.

Locals might remember Pochoda was a writer-in-residence at the James Merrill House back in 2009, where she wrote portions of her breakout novel "Visitation Street."

She was also visited by Merrill's ghost — which might make for an excellent question during the Bank Square appearance. It takes place at 6 p.m. Thursday. Bank Square Books is at 53 West Main St., Mystic. Admission is free, books are available for purchase. Call (860) 535-3795 or visit banksquarebooks.com.
