Little Big Town hits up Mohegan Sun Friday

Little Big Town performs at the Ryman Auditorium last year in Nashville, Tenn. (Wade Payne, Invision/AP)

After performing at the Grammys and picking up a Grammy for best country duo/group performance for their single “Better Man,” Big Little Town’s arrival at Mohegan Sun on Friday should have more anticipation than usual.

The core quartet — consisting of singers Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman, plus guitarists Jimi Westbrook and Philip Sweet — have been performing since 1998, and they are out on their "Breakers Tour" in support of their newest album, “The Breaker.”

Though the group has been compared to the likes of Fleetwood Mac, I’d have to disagree. For a country music group, they are pretty progressive, sure, but they are more of a country soft-rock group than country-inspired rock. Also, I could almost reckon that Little Big Town isn’t nearly as wild and reckless as Fleetwood Mac was, either, though they do seem pretty fun nonetheless.

Their lineup at Mohegan Sun should include all their top hits (though its subject to change at a moment's notice) such as “Girl Crush,” “Boondocks,” “Better Man,” and “Pontoon,” plus a variety of tracks from their newest album and some cover songs while they’re at it (yes, Elton John’s “Rocket Man” is one of them).

Little Big Town, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $39-$79; 1-800-745-3000.
