The Mystic Seaport Museum will be populated with shiny, wooden boats of all forms this weekend for the 27th annual WoodenBoat Show. Over 100 watercraft, ranging from schooners to dinghies, yachts to sailboats, all perfectly maintained, shiny and gorgeous, will be ready for viewing.

The festival, which is hosted in partnership with WoodenBoat Publications, will offer show-goers the chance to either simply peruse Seaport’s grounds or to take part in workshops and demonstrations. Wooden boat experts will be available to help with questions one might have about their wooden masterpiece, and exhibitors and vendors will be selling almost anything you could imagine. Art, antiques, tools, books, nautical gear? It’s all there.

Novice boat builders can even take part in building their own canoe over the weekend in the Family Boat Building tent, where boat building kits can be purchased (last year, a boat kit cost $1,395) on Friday morning and worked on with the oversight of a professional until Sunday afternoon (everything, including tools, will be provided, except for paint and varnish). Just imagine the feeling of going on the maiden voyage of your new boat on the Mystic River. What a payoff.

WoodenBoat Show, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fri.-Sun., Mystic Seaport Museum, Greenmanville Avenue; museum admission, which provides access to the show and is good for two days, is $26.05 adults, $24.25 ages 65 and up, $17.05 ages 6-17, free ages 5 and under; three-day pass $55 adults, $35 ages 6-17; (860) 572-0711.
