    H.S. softball: NFA rallies late to beat Wheeler 9-6

    North Stonington — Norwich Free Academy rallied from a late 6-5 deficit to defeat Wheeler 9-6 on Monday in a high school softball game.

    Shaina Beatrice tied the game for NFA (13-4) with a two-out inside-the-park home run in the top of the sixth and Britt Clark gave the Wildcats the lead for good with an RBI single later in the inning. NFA scored two more times in the seventh.

    The Wildcats led 5-1 after two innings, but the Lions (14-2) came back to take a 6-5 lead, cutting the deficit to 5-3 on a two-run single by Jenn Paride in the third and taking the lead with three runs in the fourth.

    In other games:

    • Jackie Lewis was 6-for-6 with a double, triple, four runs and three RBI as No. 2 Fitch remained unbeaten with a 17-1 win over Lyman Memorial. Taylor Wolfgang and Caroline Taber each added for hits with two RBI while Susana Mewha was 3-for-3, Haley Baldoz had two hits and two RBI, Cassie Woods was 2-for-4 with a triple and Jayden Delaporta was 2-for-3 with a triple and one RBI. Taber also pitched a no-hitter for the Falcons (18-0).

    • East Lyme began the game with a home run, triple and home run to score three runs in the first and the Vikings went on to defeat Montville 8-4 in a nonleague game. Kaylie Crosby led off the game with a solo homer, Alexis Bell followed with a triple and Mikaela Lopriore followed with a two-run blast for the Vikings (13-4), A. Marsh went 3-for-4 to lead East Lyme while Stefanie Szot went 2-for-4 with a double to pace the Indians (10-7).

    • Chloe Hespeler had two hits, including a home run, and was the winning pitcher as Ledyard beat Windham 16-4 to qualify for the Class L state tournament. The Colonels are 8-10.

    • Rylee Hehir went 3-for-4 with three RBI as Woodstock Academy downed St. Bernard 7-3. Sophie Nelson went 3-for-3 and scored for the Saints (7-10).

    • Anesti Seales had two hits and five RBI as Grasso Tech outlslugged Two Rivers 29-20 in the Constitution State Conference. Ashley Cambisaca had three hits, including a double, with three RBI for the Eagles (7-10, 6-10).

    • Daria Stifle went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI, powering Norwich Tech past Windham Tech, 17-2. Madison Bodley tossed a two-hitter and struck out seven for the Warriors.
