    H.S. tennis: St. Bernard girls win ECC Small crown

    Montville — St. Bernard School captured the Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division girls' tennis championship on Monday with a  5-2 victory over Lyman Memorial.

    The Saints (11-1, 5-0) swept the singles matches with Michaela Abate, Kat McKinley, Wendy Bessette and Maddie Mahoney all winning in straight sets and picked up a win from their No. 2 doubles team of Andrea He-Marissa Fratoni.

    In other matches:

    • Meredith Aird won at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 as Old Lyme swept Morgan 7-0 in a Shoreline Conference match. Emily Brault, Marissa Smith and Shannon Nosal won at singles for Old Lyme as did the doubles teams of Hannah O’Brien-Keelin Hurtt, Maria Donato-Kathleen Stedman and Holly Fiscus-Noel Brown.

    • Chenna Holloway and Crystal Vinoya rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory at No. 3 doubles to highlight Fitch's 7-0 win over Killingly. Diana Francis, Laura Krick, Kailey Sullivan and Jessica Cote were straight-set singles winners for the Falcons (7-6) as were the doubles teams of Nina Lupo-Jillian Leger and Hayley Cooper-Sarah Coombs.

    • Lisa Gao won the No. 1 singles match 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 as East Lyme beat Bacon Academy 6-1. Kelly Peterec and Ariel Plantz also won at singles for East Lyme (8-5) and the doubles teams of Aimee Cicchiello-Ravali Yenduri, Sejal Patel-Elisa Crane and Alex Arsenault-Neha Ande also prevailed.

    • Stonington improved to 13-0 overall with a 6-1 win over Woodstock Academy. Hannah Fabianski and Emily Gardiner led the Bears with singles victories at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

    • Lauren Rahr, Katie Lewis and Jessie Hudson posted straight-set singles wins in Waterford's 5-2 victory over Ledyard. The Lancers are 12-2. Leonor Cedrezo won at No. 3 singles for the Colonels (3-10) while Elizabeth Martin and Rachel Kane combined to win at No. 3 doubles.

    Boys

    • Fitch made quick work of Killingly, winning every match in straight sets en route to a 7-0 nonleague victory. Jacob Kowalski, Will Baldwin, Chase Brown and Jacob Carleson won singles matches for the Falcons (10-3) as did the doubles teams of Matt Pastor-Bennett Tiesinga, Connor Brown-Kush Kumar and Chris Russo-Kevin Ryan.

    • Woodstock swept all four singles matches during its 5-2 victory over Stonington. The Bears (8-5) picked up their lone wins from the doubles teams of Avish Patel-Chris Tsang and Jonathan Armstrong-Pablo Lominchar. Patel and Tsang rallied for 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

    • Willie Dong battled to a three-set win at No. 1 singles to lead Waterford past Ledyard, 7-0. Camiren Carter, James Zhu and Hugh Sokolski also won their singles matches while the doubles duos of Matthew Hausmann-Samson Herbert, Evan Burdsall-Mike Castelpoggi and Dylan Vitale-Mike Gianakos also were victorious for the Lancers (14-1). The Colonels fell to 5-8.

    • Old Lyme edged Morgan 4-3 in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats picked up singles wins from Brendan White, Charlie Dahlke and Ethan Fenton, along with the No. 1 doubles team of Austin Pilgrim-Jason Feng.
