    High school roundup: Folz helps East Lyme girls wrap up track title

    Ledyard — Gianna Folz won three events as the East Lyme High School girls' track team wrapped up the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division title with a 118-23 win over Ledyard on Tuesday.

    Folz won the 100-meter hurdles (15.5 seconds), long jump (15 feet, 6.5 inches) and high jump (4-8). Kristen Foster and Cassidy Abdeen were double-winners for East Lyme (7-1, 4-0), with Foster winning the shot put (31-9) and javelin (93-10) and Abdeen winning the 400 (1:03) and 200 (27.9). Hannah Belleville, Haley Ashton, Kirsten Thompson, Isabelle Riker, Shawn Dousis and Addie Swanson also won events for East Lyme.

    Megan Brawner of Ledyard (1-5, 0-4) won the 1,600.

    In other meets:

    • Old Lyme dropped a pair of meets in the Shoreline Conference, falling to East Hampton 116-24 and North Branford 96-36. Samantha Lee of Old Lyme won the 400 in 1:01.3.

    • Sophia Podeszwa won the 100 hurdles (17.4) and 300 hurdles (50.4) while Jeannette Mooney took first in the 1,600 (5:51) and 3,200 (12:15) in Waterford's 85-56 win over New London in the ECC Medium Division. Belle Jenne also was a double winner for the Lancers (1-5, 1-4), taking the shot put (29-1.5) and discus (89-0). Mia Santana won the 100 (12.7), long jump (16-3.5) and triple jump (34-3.75) for New London (0-5, 0-5). 

    Boys' track

    • Old Lyme beat North Branford 82-32, but lost to East Hampton 92-50 in a Shoreline Conference tri-meet. James Kolb, Will DeMott, Evan Deng, Corey Knepshield and Jared Stanland won events for Old Lyme.

    • Jelani Lucas finished first in the 100 (11.0), 200 (23.6) and triple jump to pace New London past Waterford 76-65 in the ECC Medium. Kobe Haley won the discus (97-11) and shot put (35-11.75) while Alex Athenian (javelin), Juan Hernandez (800), Anthony Jordan (high jump), Xavier Jones (1,600) and Efrain Santiago (400) also won events for the Whalers (3-2, 3-2). James Keith took first in the 110 hurdles (18.6) and Tony Jenne won the 300 hurdles (46.2) while Brian Roscover placed first in the 3,200 (10:57) and Rolando Rivera won the long jump (19-0.5) for Waterford (4-2, 3-2). 

    Baseball

    • Cooper Robinson and Kendrick Boss homered as Fitch beat Lyman Memorial 8-6. Justin Marceau had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice, Robinson had two hits and scored twice and Boss had two hits and drove in two runs for Fitch (11-7). Hunter Nadeau was the winning pitcher.

    • Andy Grant pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Norwich Free Academy beat Old Lyme 8-0. Brandon Russo had three hits and scored twice and Caleb Bierman, Bryan Caisse and Brandon Drabinski had two hits each for NFA (15-3). Old Lyme is 11-7.  

    • Steven Dakai pitched a four-hitter, leading Putnam to a 14-0 win over Grasso Tech in a Constitution State Conference game. Grasso Tech broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Monday, beating Two Rivers 4-3 in a CSC game. Ed Centero had three hits, winning pitcher Jacob Willis scored twice and Chris Rivera, Michael Patti and Jonathan Rivera had two hits each for Grasso. Chris Rivera pitched the first seven innings, allowing five hits with 13 strikeouts and four walks.

    Softball

    • Audrey Gavin was the winning pitcher and was 4-for-6 with a triple, leading Old Lyme to a 17-5 win over Norwich Tech. Liz Richard hit a solo home run and drove in three runs and Kyra Teixeira was 4-for-6 with two RBI for Old Lyme. Kerri Bellerose tripled and doubled and Erin McBride had a double for Norwich Tech.

    Boys' golf

    • Montville's Ben Reed was the medalist as the Indians completed ECC Small Division play unbeaten with a 7-0 win over St. Bernard. Reed shot a 41, Chris Bouchard had a 42 and Cory Meigs, Ryan Turney and Matthew Hendrickson also won their matches for Montville (13-3-1, 10-0).

    • Norwich Tech beat Windham Tech in a CSC match 199-221. Joe Bacon of Norwich Tech (6-7, 5-5) was the medalist with a 46.

    • Fitch lost to Woodstock in an ECC Large Division match 6.5-0.5. Luke Teixeira of Fitch (2-15, 0-8) shared medalist honors with Woodstock's Dan Harrington. Teixeira shot a team-low 46 on Monday as Fitch (222) lost to Parish Hill (176) and Morgan (169).

    Girls' tennis

    • Old Lyme beat North Branford in a Shoreline Conference match 7-0. Meredith Aird, Emily Brault, Marissa Smith and Shannon Nosal had straight-set wins for Old Lyme along with the doubles teams of Hannah O'Brien-Keelin Hurtt and Cooper Kotzan-Kathleen Stedman.

    • Montville beat Lyman Memorial 4-3 in an ECC Small Division match. Jennifer Hester, Mia Ferguson, Meagan McAdams and Laura Huapaya won singles matches for Montville (5-7, 3-3).
