    H.S. track & field roundup: Fitch boys finish second in Class MM

    Middletown — Led by a strong performance in the field events, the Fitch boys' track team finished second in the CIAC Class MM track and field meet Wednesday.

    The Falcons scored 68 points, trailing only Windsor (105). East Lyme finished ninth. Fitch placed seventh in the girls' meet with 35 points and East Lyme was 11th (27).

    Individual winners were Ledyard's Megan Brawner in the girls' 800 meters (2:22.49) and Fitch's Sydnee Spruill, who won the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches.

    In the Class LL meet at New Britain's Willow Brook Park, NFA's J'Von Brown won the boys' shot with a put of 49-10. NFA was seventh in the boys' meet and 12th in the girls' meet.

    The Fitch boys went 3-4-6 in the shot put, with Eli Rosario Vega third (45-11), Brian Robinson fourth (44-10) and Everett Guess sixth (43-11). Robinson was second in the discus (146-8) and Rosario Vega was third (139-08). Patrick Scheurer was fifth in the javelin (147-7) and teammate Tyric Scott was sixth at 146-2.

    Other Fitch results in the top six included Matt Kerst in the 800 (fifth, 2:02.35), Scheurer in the 110 hurdles (fifth, 16.03) and 300 hurdles (fifth, 42.27), Alex Schwindt in the pole vault (third, 12-6), Scott in the triple jump (fifth, 40-4), the 4x800 relay team (third, 8:20.45) and the 4x400 team (sixth, 3:36.35).

    Norwich Tech's Mike Sanon was fourth in the triple jump at 41-5.

    East Lyme finishers in the top six included Vann Moffett in the 3,200 (fifth, 9:53.85), Kosta Lanis (third, 6-2) and Brett Bragaw (fifth, 6-0) in the high jump, Ari Manthous in the pole vault (second, 12-6) and the second-place 4x800 team (8:16.97).

    In the girls' meet Fitch got top-six performances from Madison Powe in the 100 (third, 12.61), Alicia Moroyoqui in the 800 (fourth, 2:24.39), Ryana Kelsey in the long jump (fourth, 16-2) and triple jump (fifth, 34-1) and the 4x100 team (fifth, 51.15).

    East Lyme finishers in the top six were Haley Ashton in the 100 hurdles (16.17), Isabelle Riker in the 300 hurdles (third, 49.56) and long jump (sixth, 15-10), Jamie Foster in the discus (fifth, 91-10) and the 4x400 (fourth, 4:13.67) and 4x800 (fifth, 10:22.51) teams.

    Ledyard's Brawner was also fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:23.81.

    Scoring in the top six for the NFA boys were Nick Fitch in the 800 (fourth, 1:57.99), Connor Gralton in the 1,600 (fifth, 4:21.28), Alex Bazinet in the pole vault (fourth, 12-6), Marquis Ward in the triple jump (fourth, 41-11) and long jump (sixth, 21-1) and Marcus Gates in the high jump (fourth, 6-0) and triple jump (sixth, 41-2).

    Making the top six for the NFA girls were Kelsie Hall in the pole vault (third, 10-0), Allyson Lewis in the high jump (third, 5-0) and Marvelouse Guerrier in the triple jump (second, 35-1).
