    Fitch announces Class of 2016 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees

    Groton — Fitch High School will induct 16 new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame, athletic director Marc Romano announced Tuesday.

    The Class of 2016 will be honored during a luncheon and induction ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 13, at St. Mary of the Redeemer adjacent to the high school. A reception will be held at 1 p.m., with the luncheon at 1:30 followed by the ceremony. Tickets are $45 and be purchased by contacting Robin Doyle at (860)-514-1307.

    Following is a look at the 16 inductees:

    • Joseph Rinoski (Class of 1933) — Player football and basketball and was captain of the football team in 1932. He came back to teach at Fitch and was pivotal in keeping girls' basketball vital during the war years.

    • Charles Burrows (1934) — Earned seven varsity letters in football, basketball and basketball, serving as captain of the basketball team.

    • Lil Hansen (Lamb) (1938) — Earned letters and cheerleading and basketball, then spent her career being involved in various youth activities in the Town of Groton. She founded the Teenage Club which donated two electronic scoreboards to the high school.

    • Hank Cedeo (1947) — Played football, basketball and baseball for the Falcons and was a running back for the football team.

    • Ted Hespeler (1951) — Played football, basketball and track, earning all-conference honors in football and basketball, running on the ECC championship 4x200 relay team and finishing second in the pole vault.

    • Pat Michaud (1955) — Excelled in football, indoor and outdoor track and field. He was captain of the football team, helped the Falcons win a state indoor title and held the school pole vault record for 20 years.

    • Dan Nilsson (1960) — Was co-captain of the basketball team, which won the ECC championship and reached the state semifinals, and earned all-ECC and all-state honors.

    • Jimmy Hall (1963) — Played football, basketball and baseball, serving as captain of the basketball team and being selected to play in the Nutmeg Bowl in football.

    • Rick Hauser (1977) — Was captain of the football, wrestling and baseball teams as a senior, earning second team all-state honors as a running back on the 1976 state championship football team while earning all-state honors in wrestling twice.

    • Jim Gabarra (1977) — Was captain of the soccer team, earning all-conference honors and being named to the all-state first team.

    • Laurie Blanton (Atkins) (1982) — Played volleyball, basketball and softball while being a captain in all three sports, all-conference in all there sports and an all-state pick in softball. She was named Fitch's Female Athlete of the Year in 1982.

    • Lonnie Hooker (1982) — Played football and track and field, earning all-state and all-conference in track two years in a row, winning the state 100-meter title in 1982. He still holds schools records in the 100 and as a member of the 4x100 relay team.

    • Reggie McNeil (1990) — Excelled in indoor and outdoor track and field, winning the state and New England title in the 110-meter high hurdles while running on the 4x180 relay team that set an ECC record.

    • Danielle Isbister (1996) — Played volleyball, basketball and softball, earning all-conference honors in all three sports, while scoring 1,000 career points in basketball.

    • Betsy Boucher (2004) — Ran cross country, indoor and outdoor track for the Falcons and was a captain in all three. She also earned all-conference and all-state honors in each sport, winning state titles in all three, too.

    • Jesse Hahn (2007) — Played football, basketball and baseball and was consensus all-state pick as a pitcher in baseball.
