Rain, lightning play havoc with H.S. football games
Lightning and heavy rain, which resulted in flash flood warnings throughout southeastern Connecticut, led to the postponement of four local high school football games on Friday night and the suspension of a fifth.
Host Stonington led Norwich Free Academy 8-0 with 1 minute, 23 seconds left in the first quarter when a lightning delay ensued, and officials eventually opted to suspend the game until Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
Three other games were also postponed after lengthy weather delays and will all be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. — Fitch at New London, Ledyard at East Lyme and Waterford at Griswold. The Fitch-New London game will be carried via audio feed on wwwtheday.com at 1 p.m.
In addition, Thames River's game at Quinebaug Valley will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday.
