High school roundup: Waterford football team routs Griswold 30-12

Griswold — Waterford High School scored the game's first 23 points and cruised to a 30-12 football victory over Griswold on Saturday.

The game was originally scheduled for Friday night, but was postponed by heavy rain and lightning.

A 34-yard pass from Spencer Hoagland to Kyle Cardoza on a fake punt set up a 13-yard touchdown run by Luke Barrs on the Lancers' first possession.

Waterford (4-1), which bounced back from its first loss last week at Ledyard, scored touchdowns on three of its first four possessions and Hoagland kicked a 27-yard field goal on its fifth.

The Lancers also sacked Griswold quarterback Bryce Mileski five times.

Barrs ran for 135 yards on 14 carries, including a 54-yard run late in the fourth quarter that set up Hoagland's second touchdown.

Hoagland was 7-for-14 passing for 96 yards and a touchdown and added 70 yards and two scores on 17 carries. Cardoza had five receptions for 63 yards.
