    H.S. basketball roundup: Poirier-Vaughters paces NFA girls past East Lyme

    East Lyme — Makayla Poirier-Vaughters had 11 field goals and 22 points as Norwich Free Academy downed East Lyme on Tuesday, 50-38, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I girls' basketball game.

    Haley Conley scored 13 for the Wildcats (5-4, 2-1), who trailed 17-16 at halftime. They outscored the Vikings 34-21 in the second half.

    Sophie Dubreuil had 16 points for East Lyme (6-4, 2-1) and Megan Bauman has 12 points.

    In other games:

    • Xaryia Melendez had 16 points as second-ranked New London remained unbeaten with a 57-23 win over Fitch in an ECC Division I game. Taina Pagan added 10 for the Whalers (9-0, 3-0). The Falcons are 0-9, 0-3.

    • Mia Brennan and Ashley Goldstein each scored 11 points as Waterford beat St. Bernard, 48-29. Rebekah Sanders had 10 rebounds and four blocks for Waterford (6-2). Caitlyn Dittman had 20 points for the Saints (6-3).

    • Emily Meigs scored 12 points and Brianna Leone 10 as Montville beat Wheeler, 42-31. Brooke LaVallie had nine points for the Indians (4-6). Raina Haas had eight points for the Lions (1-8).

    • Audrey Gavin had 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks as Old Lyme trounced Haddam-Killingworth, 60-28, in the Shoreline Conference. Jordan Lewis had 13 points for Old Lyme (5-4) and Tessa Kroes scored 11.

    • Kate Hall had 20 points, six steals and four rebounds as Stonington topped Lyman Memorial, 52-40. Kate Johnson had 16 points, five rebounds and four steals for Stonington (7-3) and Cameron Dreher added eight points, 13 rebounds and three steals. Katy Konow had 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Bulldogs.

    • Chloe Guzman scored 10 points to help Norwich Tech beat Holy Family, 29-24, in a Constitution State Conference East game. Madison Bodley had eight points for Norwich Tech. Zanaya Sligh had 14 points for the Marists.

    • Fishers Island beat Williams, 36-24. Katia Bourganos and Audrey Matson both scored eight for Williams.

    Boys

    • Elijah Martinez had 18 points and Edwardo Gonzalez scored 13 as New London overwhelmed Fitch, 80-49, in an ECC Division I game. Gio Lopez had 13 points and seven assists for New London (4-3, 2-1) and Jalen Benson added 11 points and six assists. Kiev Lucas had 12 points for the Falcons (1-4, 0-2) and Sam Aiello scored 11.

    • Cam Collins had 26 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists as Montville beat Wheeler, 79-64. John Domijan had a career high 24 points with 10 rebounds and 5 blocks for Montville (2-6). Mike Anderson and Roger Watrous both scored 19 for the Lions (0-6).

    • Mikey Buscetto had six points and 13 assists for Waterford as it overwhelmed St. Bernard early in its 86-37 win. The Lancers took a 25-3 lead after one quarter. Liam Spellman had 18 points and Bret Wood scored 16 for Waterford (6-1) and Dwight Acevedo had six points, six rebounds and four assists. Adam Pinch added six points and seven assists and Walker Sutman had four points and seven rebounds. Hunter Bailergeon had 14 points for the Saints (3-4) and Connor Svab scored 12.

    • Matt Schmeelk had 33 points and 12 rebounds in Stonington's 71-65 win over Lyman Memorial. J.R. Parrilla had 17 points and seven rebounds for Stonington (5-4). David Lopez had 21 points for the Bulldogs and Michael Franchi scored 11.

    • Old Lyme lost to Haddam-Killingworth in a Shoreline Conference game, 74-61. Parker Stone had 15 points, Dean Palenski scored 14, Danny Marinelli scored 13 and Quinn Romeo had 10 points for Old Lyme (1-6, 1-6).
