Fitch has a pair of champions at Class L wrestling tournament

Bristol — Fitch had a pair of individual champions while New London finished a solid fourth in the CIAC Class L wrestling tournament on Saturday at Bristol Central High School.

Jarod Kosman (106 pounds) and Dakota Grover (195) captured state titles for the Falcons as did New London's Renelson Michel (220), who helped the Whalers amass 127.5 points to finish behind Bristol Eastern (231), New Milford (230) and Hand (143.5). Fitch finished eighth with 95 points.

Kosman earned an escape point in the second period to beat Bristol Central's Christopher Trelli 1-0 in the final while Grover held off New Milford's David Angulo 4-3 and Michel beat previously unbeaten Granit Hoti of Darien 4-3.

New London's Jacob Commander (160) also reached the final, but was pinned by Bristol Eastern's Michael Barrett in 5 minutes, 5 seconds. Renel Michel (285) added a third for the Whalers by pinning New Canaan's Jack Stewart in 4:19 of the consolation final while Luis Rodriguez-Veras (170) pinned New Milford's Kyle Fabich in 1:51 to finish fifth and Xavier Alvarez (182) placed sixth.

Fitch's Austin Robertson (126) added a fourth.

In the Class M meet at Guilford, Waterford's Logan Smith won a state title at 106 while St. Bernard/Norwich Tech had a pair of place-winners. Smith defeated Killingly's Danny Charron 1-0 in the final while the Saints' Alex Brito (220) beat Foran's Andre Vella 3-1 to finish third and Roark Ryan (285) lost his consolation final to finish fourth.
