    Honors continue for Misto, New London girls' basketball

    New London — New London High School girls' basketball coach Holly Misto was named the USA Today High School Sports Connecticut Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year and senior center India Pagan a first team all-star this week, following the Whalers' Class LL state championship on March 18.

    New London finished the season 26-2, winning the title over top-seeded Trumbull 42-36 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

    The Whalers earned the No. 1 ranking in the final GameTimeCT/New Haven Register top 10. They were also recently honored with the Brenda Reilly Memorial Award for the outstanding team of 2017 at the Connecticut Women's Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony and as the Connecticut High School Coaches' Association's Team of the Year for girls' basketball.

    Pagan, who will attend Stony Brook, was one of five players on the USA Today Connecticut first team along with Player of the Year Angelique Rodriguez of Hartford Capital (signed to play for Pittsburgh), Sydney Lowery of St. Luke's (Boston College), McKenna Dale of E.O. Smith (Brown) and Lexi Kimball of Greens Farms Academy (Georgetown).

    New London's Jada Lucas and St. Bernard's Caitlyn Dittman were named to the second team.

    Misto, who completed her third season at New London, is 246-66 (.788) in 12 seasons overall, 73-8 with two state championship appearances with the Whalers.
