    H.S. basketball: No. 1 New London girls beat East Lyme 51-31

    East Lyme — Xaryia Melendez had 15 points and Taina Pagan added 12 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks as the New London girls' basketball team downed East Lyme 51-31 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game on Tuesday.

    Rosi Nicholson had 12 points, six steals and three assists and Cora Sawyer had seven assists for the Whalers (9-0, 3-0), the top-ranked team in the GameTimeCT/New Haven Register Top 10 state poll.

    Megan Bauman had 13 points for the Vikings (7-3, 1-1).

    In other games:

    • Emma McCulloch made two go-ahead free throws with nine seconds left as Old Lyme rallied from a nine-point, fourth-quarter deficit and edged Haddam-Killingworth 45-43 in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats outscored H-K 16-5 in the fourth. Emily Rivera had eight points, 10 rebounds and five steals for the Wildcats (5-2) and McCulloch scored 12.

    • Sarah Ericson scored 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, as Norwich Free Academy rolled to a 57-28 victory over Fitch in an ECC Division I game. Bella Graziano also made two 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for the Wildcats (2-6, 1-1), while Ellie Hohlfelder led the Falcons (1-7, 0-1) with 11 points, incuding three 3-pointers.

    • Nicole Bibeau had five points and seven steals as Lyman Memorial gave St. Bernard its first loss in ECC Division III, 42-22. Emily Nelson scored 11 for the Saints (3-6, 2-1).

    • Savannah Galluci had 11 points and 10 rebounds during Wheeler's 38-35 ECC Division III loss to Tourtellotte. Emma Morgan added nine points and four steals for the Lions (2-6, 0-4) while Sam Caster finished with nine points.

    • Williams School lost its first game after the winter break, falling to Master's 66-42. Katia Bourganos led the Blues (4-2) with 14 points while Olivia Kaplan and Marie Grillo each scored 12.

    • Sydney Tetrault scored 12 as Ellis Tech downed Norwich Tech 33-18 in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Kalli Campbell had six points for Norwich Tech.

    • Marisa Shirshac had 28 points as Windham Tech topped Grasso Tech 65-24 in the CTC. Morgan McNeil scored 14 for the Eagles (0-7).

    Boys

    • Mikey Buscetto scored 20 of his 22 points in the first half and also had 10 assists in Waterford's 86-56 win over Montville in the ECC Division II opener for both teams. Trevor Yeomans had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Walker Sutman added six points and 15 rebounds for the Lancers (7-0, 1-0), ranked seventh in the GameTimeCT/New Haven Register Top 10 state poll. John Domijan had 18 points for the Indians (2-5, 0-1).

    • Trevor Hutchins had 15 points, 23 rebounds, five blocks and five assists as Ledyard thumped Harding 67-37. Devin Rickerson had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Colonels (4-2) and Sakye Reels added 12 points.

    • Aidan Miller scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers, as unbeaten NFA routed Fitch 79-44 in an ECC Division I game. The Wildcats (5-0, 1-0) led 21-19 after one quarter before outscoring the Falcons 44-20 over the middle two quarters to break the game open. Bret Wood added 19 points for NFA and Alec Gomes had 10. Kiev Lucas led Fitch (1-7, 0-1) with 17 points and Tre Bryant had 13.

    • Lennox Deer had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Zach Scott scored 12 in Stonington’s 51-33 win over Bacon Academy in an ECC Division II game. Anthony Fry had 10 points and Jacob Geary had six blocks for Stonington (5-4, 2-0).

    • Evender Dorcin scored 15 points as Norwich Tech defeated Ellis Tech 52-45 in the CTC. Evan Wagner added nine points and Giovani Yeung scored eight.

    • Hunter Baillargeon and Joseph Beltran scored 15 points each as St. Bernard beat Lyman Memorial 61-53 in an ECC Division III game. Nathaniel Avery had 13 points and Max Lee scored 10 for St. Bernard (7-1, 2-0).

    • Wheeler lost to Tourtellotte in an ECC Division III game, 67-43. Ian Spracklin scored 10 points and Scott Pion had eight points and seven rebounds for Wheeler (2-6, 0-2).

    • Ta-Jae Jenkins scored a career high 24 points during St. Thomas More's 69-66 loss to Redemption Christian. Jalen Duck added had eight points and six rebounds for the Chancellors and Tyler Rudolph had seven points and nine rebounds.

    • Jenkins had 11 points and nine assists to highlight St. Thomas More's 76-52 win over Worcester Academy on Monday. Rudolph led the Chancellors with 16 points while Tyshun Bryant had 14 points and seven rebounds and Cole Turner scored 14 points.
