Added NL tax bill angers this taxpayer
I write in regards to my current tax bill. I paid my first installment in July and my second installment Dec. 2, 2014. I had no idea that my payment was going to be considered a partial payment.
If there was a tax increase why wasn't I sent a corrected statement showing the gross and net assessment along with the current mill rate? I have a budget that I must follow and I want to know what bills I have coming due so I can pay them on time with no penalty. Instead, I receive in the mail a hand written invoice saying, "oh by the way," you owe $488.52 more in taxes and if it is not paid by Jan. 1 you will receive a penalty.
This is how you treat a taxpayer that pays not only on time but early?
There is no reputable business that sends out a hand-written invoice, especially when the customer's bill has been paid in full. I expect a proper invoice with the reason for the additional payment.
This is a very poor way to do business and a very good way to aggravate the loyal citizens of New London who do pay their taxes in full and on time.
