New London needs more police officers

In response to tires being cut in New London ("More than 35 cars vandalized in New London," Jan. 3). When the New London Police Department had many more officers, it did what was commonly referred to as "proactive police work," meaning that officers would constantly check their respective areas of patrol to keep these clowns from doing this type of damage. When a police car is in the area, vandals won't take the chance for fear of being caught.

Now that Mayor Finizio has decimated the police department, and officers can only respond to more serious crimes, this type of crime will continue to get worse. Finizio has lied about hiring more officers, he has lied about the restoring the K-9 unit - lies, lies, lies. And now he is running for re-election. Go ahead New London, re-elect him, see what happens.

The news says that Connecticut has a high rate of people leaving, New London is just one example of why people are leaving. Poor management. Any person looking for a job in law enforcement will not be applying in New London.

Instead of hiring more assistants for your office, mayor, how about hiring people who really work for a living.
