Upscale apartments poor Ft. Trumbull use

    xxxxx

When I read about the intent to use what little prime real estate remains to build yet more gentrified housing in the Fort Trumbull area of New London I was appalled. To think the final proposal would be the plan of a Pennsylvania developer, instead of what can best serve as a tourist spot to enrich our city, dumbfounds me.

Let us suppose the citizens pool their resources to develop a venue such as a Whaling City Museum, to increase tourist foot traffic, along with the up-and-coming Coast Guard Museum? Why is it that developers are solely stuck on gentrified housing/condo apartments to serve the one-percenters? (Those who would dwell in these apartments.)

Instead, let’s truly generate visitors, employment opportunities for our teens, use of hotels in and around New London. We already have an ideal port, even for visiting sailing vessels. I wish the Renaissance City Development group could find a way for New London residents to pool financial resources to develop our southeastern Connecticut city, which is truly rich in history.

The term renaissance means born anew, not apartments for only a few to use and enjoy. Without true vision, we will surely perish!
