    Pay parents to home-school kids

    xxxxx

While appearing on a recent public TV show, I asked the current New London Superintendent Manuel Rivera exactly how much it cost to educate a child from kindergarten through Grade 12. He said at least $250,000. The new education magnet program will never return on this investment, as most graduates leave New London for greener pastures for opportunities elsewhere.

I am proposing the following option for all school-age parents to consider. If they would home school their child rather than send their child to the New London school system, with a deposit of $150,000 that would be made in the child’s name that would be released at age 18. With the interest on this investment, the child should be financially set for life with maybe a few children remaining in New London and reinvesting these earnings in the local economy.

The unrealistic fantasy of the current leadership, that because of the education system there will be the desire for more families to move to New London, demonstrates just how out of touch these leaders are. This investment proposal will accomplish what the current education system will never achieve, more taxpaying families wanting to move to New London.
