Conn. Dept. on Aging is critically important

I am extremely proud of the senior center directors of southeastern Connecticut for their effort in pushing our government to reinstate the much needed Department on Aging. Our local senior center director has worked together on numerous causes and has produced impressive results for the senior citizens in our state. I am proud that Gov. Malloy understood and accepted the changes needed for the elderly population and the needs that will come with this growing demographic. It is impressive to witness a group of individuals made up of differing political affiliations working together without agenda or party obstacles to achieve what is necessary for the populations they serve.

I have been fortunate in my position to become educated on all the resources available at senior centers. Many misunderstand the value of centers. Senior centers are not merely recreational facilities for seniors, they are a tremendous asset to the elderly residents of each town and city and they deserve to have a Department on Aging provide them with the assistance, information and services needed. I applaud our senior center directors for their knowledge, time and tremendous effort focused on the elderly in our state.
