We echo the sentiments expressed in The Day regarding the Connecticut state budget, “Include Republicans in state budget talks,” (May 20).

Along with Senator Leader Len Fasano, we offered a detailed and thoughtful Republican alternative budget plan that restores funding for our most vulnerable residents and does not raise taxes. Southeastern Connecticut residents have applauded our effort.

Our ideas can help put our state on a path toward fiscal stability while creating job growth opportunities in cities like New London and Norwich. That’s why it has been so disappointing to have the governor and legislative Democrats shut Republicans out of budget negotiations. That lack of Republican input will result in yet another massive tax hike that will hurt struggling small businesses and middle-income families in our region.
