Climate disruption is actually a big deal

This is in response to the Mike DiMauro’s column, “Coast Guard Academy should matter the other 364 days of the year, too,” (May 21). While climate change doesn't have the cachet of ECC reorganization or deflated footballs, there are some who say it is the seminal issue of our age. I agree that we in America are blessed with extraordinary educational institutions, including the Coast Guard Academy, and that we in southeastern Connecticut don't pay as much attention to the academy as we should.

After our august institutions have turned out so many competent scientists, and the vast majority of climate scientists agree that global warming is abetted by human involvement and is a significant threat to the planet's wellbeing, it is nonsense for DiMauro to so cavalierly dismiss the issue out of hand.

That being said, let's get back to debating Tom Brady's crimes against humanity or whether the Mets should trade for a hitter.
