Editorial made case for boycott of Israel

I appreciate the excellent guest editorial from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, “Stifling a boycott: For Israel, it means finding a two-state solution,” (June 14). The editorial correctly points out that the present Israeli government's resistance to a two-state solution and continuing settlement activity in the occupied territories is giving traction to the BDS campaign (boycotts, divestment and sanctions) aimed at Israel for its ongoing occupation.

The BDS campaign is a growing issue on campuses throughout the United States and beyond, and it has been taken up as well by a number of churches in the United States and Canada. The Episcopal Church will be hearing of BDS at our forthcoming General Convention later this month, and the Presbyterian and the Methodist Churches have already taken actions to promote the boycott. The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme has moved the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ to affirm BDS, and this movement will continue to gain momentum until the occupation ends and statehood is granted to Palestine.
