Foundation tours get you inside lighthouse

The Ledge Light Foundation agrees with the article, “Two-hour lighthouse tour adds to local attractions,” (June 26), about the Cross Sound Ferry and the fact that the more opportunities there are to see our local maritime treasures, the better. Since our lighthouse was featured as a photo, as it is so often in The Day, we'd like to share what we have done to help lighthouse tourism.

The Ledge Light Foundation, stewards of the light since 1988, replaced half the old broken windows, sealed the leaky roof, refurbished the interior, added several benches outside and created a museum inside.

Our Interpretive Center features exhibits in almost every room, an air-conditioned theater with an orientation film, a furnished keeper's room and a gift shop. You might even meet Ernie the ghost!

We urge folks to attend our tours: www.LedgeLighthouse.org/tours, and see all the exhibits inside, enjoy the spectacular views and more. And 100 percent of all the revenue we receive from tours and gift shop sales goes into the ongoing restoration work and new exhibits. We are an all-volunteer nonprofit.

Book a tour through us on the Project Oceanology boat, voyage to Ledge Light, come inside and see Ledge Light from the inside!
