Preston's lousy leaders should mimic Mullane

It was so refreshing to ready the article, “North Stonington’s Buon Appetito looking to expand parking,” (July 9).

Now, this is leadership, as shown by Nick Mullane, North Stonington’s first selectman, encouraging the restaurant owners of Buon Appetito to expand and offering ideas on how to do it.

I also want to recognize Day reporter Lindsay Boyle on how this article was written, straight to the point, even providing facts for everyone in the region to read and understand; quite refreshing.

We have always compared the leadership of North Stonington with our leaders here in Preston. Our conclusion is that North Stonington’s leaders listen to their residents and actually encourage business in the town, while keeping its rural farming atmosphere. The town leaders sure do a good balancing act. Your residents are lucky to have a savvy leader like Mullane watching out for your bottom line, unlike Preston.

For example, look at Preston’s hospital property fiasco. How about that gas station endeavor by the entrance to Town Hall on Route 2? Need I say more?
