Shocking story opening poor reporting choice

My wife and I can’t be the only ones who were concerned that the New London Magnet school is “saddled with dwindling resources while seeking ways to innovate.” This unfortunate misapprehension arose from the tendency of staff writers at The Day to bury the lede. Do not start a story, especially one above the fold on page one, “Magnet school marks milestone," (Aug. 20), with something that happened 18 years ago. I don’t know where you went to journalism school, but either they didn’t teach the inverted pyramid form or you had your head buried in your iPad that day.
