    Preventing disaster should be priority

Spending billions on widening I-95 is ludicrous. We need to fix our bridges lest we have another like the 1983 Mianus Bridge disaster on I-95. Traffic congestion is like a restaurant line. When it gets too long, people will resort to alternatives.

Van and car pools and other mass transit offer relaxing, productive, safe, economical and fun ways of getting to work. Passengers on my vanpool chatted, slept, worked and didn’t have the stress of fighting traffic. They arrived ready for the day and got their cars off the road and saved us some air pollution.

The money can be better spent elsewhere. It may cost a lot more than $10 billion fixing what we’ve got. Widening the road may offer some relief, but fixing infrastructure would make me feel safer.
