    N. Stonington seniors deserve a tax break

Thinking of our senior citizens in North Stonington, who received no raise in their Social Security checks, are burdened with an increase in medical insurance and an increase coming in town taxes, I proposed an option to the Board of Selectmen for consideration.

Basically, I proposed a tax freeze at age 65 for seniors who have lived in town for at least 10 years. Connecticut Statutes allows towns to offer an option such as this and explains the procedure. A committee should be formed to study, investigate and prepare a report on this option, then it could become reality if the legislative body approves. There are around 108 towns in Connecticut that offer seniors some kind of relief, let's join them.

I urge you to contact the selectmen's office and let them know your thoughts on this important option for our senior citizens.
