Don't blame Scott, blame partisan Democrats

Kathleen Harrington, wrote a wholly inaccurate, politically motivated letter, “Groton lawmakers failed to get aid for Groton,” (May 17), which completely misrepresented the facts over Groton’s attempt to pass special legislation for early consideration on a school construction grant. Rep. John Scott saw the opportunity, worked extraordinarily hard on the legislation, arranged meetings with the Department of Administrative Services and set up the House legislative process. In fact, DAS and the commissioner were very supportive of his effort. I believe Democratic legislative leaders and the governor pulled the request precisely so that letters like Harrington’s could be written. No matter the Groton students and taxpayers.

A town councilor said it best, “Groton got burned” by the Democratic leadership in Hartford who would rather score political points than do the right thing to end our longstanding problems of aged school buildings, racial imbalance and constant redistricting to stay within the letter of Connecticut law. Don’t blame Scott for what happened; blame the hyper-partisanship of Dan Malloy and Democrats in control in Hartford who are worried about November. Let’s re-elect John Scott who will do what is right for his district no matter whose idea it is.
