I read the article, “Report: Mystic Half Marathon brings $1.8 million to local economy,” (Dec. 25). It complimented the Stonington officials for their help. Now for the rest of the story!

The Mystic Rotary Club originally asked the foundation to help run the half marathon, as we had no experience in running a race. We are a co-sponsor of the race. The next one is scheduled for May 21, 2017.

Rotarians provide manpower for traffic control, manning the course, manning the water stations and cleaning up as well as sharing management.

The Mystic Rotary Club uses this event to raise money for high school scholarships and to provide funds for nonprofit groups. We solicit local businesses, which in turn receive advertising at the race as well as the satisfaction of knowing they supported a popular local event.

As an active Rotarian, I think the public should have the whole story rather than a one-sided brief with noticeable omissions.
