    Don't rush Gorsuch confirmation

As I write, confirmation hearings have just ended on Neil Gorsuch for Supreme Court. Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell is in a rush to win approval when we are only eight weeks into an administration led by a man who apparently routinely lies, who lost a lawsuit recently over his fraudulent business activities, who is a xenophobe, and who has very limited knowledge of how our government works. Yet his candidate for Supreme Court is just fine with the Republicans, whereas a year ago President Obama’s perfectly acceptable candidate was not given the time of day.

McConnell loves to brag about how the American people have spoken to him; he refers to those who don’t agree with him as whiners. What’s wrong with this picture? We’re better off with an evenly divided Supreme Court until the Republicans get a more balanced view of what the American people really want.
