Great school-year start for Stonington kids
Now that the first week of school is behind us, I wanted to take the time to commend Stonington Public Schools. With all the budget uncertainty out of the state legislature, it was nice to see that the school year started with smiling faces on the children as they began the new year, eager to grow and learn.
From the Board of Education and the superintendent, to each school’s support staff, and to the most important of all, the teachers, they returned to help our children to learn. Whether it was the child’s first day of kindergarten, middle school or high school, our teachers and staff were there with hearty welcomes and the excitement to teach.
Those involved at Deans Mill and West Vine Elementary schools deserve special recognition as the buildings are being renovated and upgraded. The students returned to what looks like a construction site and yet the first day was smooth.
Stonington residents should be proud of our town as their tax dollars are wisely spent and our school system is better than ever. Now if only our elected leaders in Hartford could get their act together and pass a fair and balanced budget so Stonington educators can continue to focus on educating our children.
