I am a Democrat candidate for Groton Town Council. I was asked to run because of my experience in municipal government, having been a selectman for six years.

In Maine, we ran on our merits, not some party affiliation. My friends said they voted for me because I was the voice of reason.

Yesterday I received a Republican pamphlet with the quote: "Democrat Politicians have proven that they can't run our state, so why would we let them run our town?" That's like saying "Republican Politicians have proven that they can't run our country, so why would we let them run our town?" I encourage voters to vote on Nov. 7 for the candidate they feel will do the best for Groton, not what someone in Hartford or Washington tells them to do.
