Pot, tolls, betting; did we make wrong choice for governor?

While we're in the middle of an opioid crisis, where our children are dying from drug overdoses, The Day reported that "Legal pot bill clears state Judiciary Committee," (April 9). What are we thinking? And, I ask: Where is the public good in recreational marijuana?

We trust our legislators to make sound decisions for our benefit, but where is the public benefit in legalizing a mind-altering drug? Is it just for the money, or are there more sinister motives behind this?

Back when the state income tax was forced on us by then governor Lowell Weicker, the money rolled in and Connecticut was sitting pretty for a while. Now, Connecticut has squandered the money and we are permanently saddled with the state income tax. If this marijuana abomination passes, along with sports betting and highway tolls, and we run out of money again, what’s next?

Gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanowski had a plan to get Connecticut back on its feet again by budget control and proper financial management. Did Connecticut make a mistake here?
