Ten area restaurants involved in 9/11 fundraiser Monday, Tuesday

Stonington — A fundraiser featuring 10 area restaurants will be held Monday and Tuesday to raise money for the Josh Piver Scholarship Fund and the McCourt Memorial Garden in New London.

Piver, a 23-year-old Stonington native was killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, while Ruth McCourt and her 4-year-old daughter Juliana died aboard the American Flight 175 when it struck the south tower of the World Trade Center.

The following restaurants will donate 10 percent of their profits on Monday to the two charities: the Dogwatch in Stonington, the Engine Room, Dogwatch Mystic, Oyster Club and Jealous Monk in Mystic, the Seahorse in Noank, Sneekers in Groton and Muddy Waters in New London.

On Tuesday, Noah’s in Stonington and the Stonington Pizza Palace will donate 10 percent of their profits.

Each year, the Piver scholarship is awarded to a Stonington High School senior "who best practices Josh's values of character and community involvement."

The McCourt 9/11 Memorial Garden, located on the grounds of the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London was inspired by McCourt and her daughter, and their love of gardens. The gardens were created as a living memorial to all those from southeastern Connecticut who were lost on that day.
